Cast Adrift in Blue

The figure in the boat is based on John Minton's dust jacket cover for Time Was Away from 1948. The figure is asleep in a boat on a beach, so I have imagined the sea has come in and swept him away. The original reduction linocut was titled The Dreamer and made for a Printmakers Council exhibition on the theme of Journeys in 2019, but I decided to retitle this 3 plate version to Cast Adrift when it was shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2020 in a different colour palette, following the interesting conversations that arose when talking to viewers about this image, as it seems to draw out the psychological state of the observer.
